Eye-Fi cards are cool little things that allow you to upload images direct to the internet from your camera as the photos are taken. Up till now they have been capable of storing up to 2GB of photos and sending those photos over a wireless network to apps such as Flickr and Facebook. They have now been upgraded to 4GB and are capable of uploading to Youtube too.
While capturing video on your camera your Eye-Fi card will automatically upload those videos to Youtube if you so wish. All you need to do is be in range of a wireless network and away it goes. Of course, pre configuration is needed so that you can tell the card what credentials to use when logging on to a wireless network and what username and password to upload to the online service with. Once that “one-off” config is done though you are good to go.
A couple of new versions of this card have been launched. The first is the Explore which is capable of image and video uploads over a wireless network and uses geotagging too. Geotagging is not based on GPS data though and uses information from surrounding wi-fi networks to determine the rough location the photo was taken. The Explore 4GB will cost $99. Next is the Share which costs $79.99 and does everything but geotagging.
If you are wanting to upload on the go then it seems the Explore is the one for you as it makes accessing hotspots and web services a lot easier.
